    I have always defended my unfashionable position in favour of unseasonal produce, since living in Britain and eating only local and seasonal food would restrict my diet more than would be comfortable. Still, I am always childishly delighted when some fruit or vegetables comes newly into season and right now I'm gooseberries-a-go-go. I love this sharp fruit, so beautiful with its translucent green glow. Of course, gooseberries need cooking (I don't go for the new sort of sweet red ones) but that's not a bad thing!
