I seldom go off recipe for baking, but I made a little change for the topping. I covered the walnuts in a bitter coffee toffee, smashed them up and sprinkled on top. They work well against the sweet frosting.
The walnuts sounds amazing, what a great twist. I can see from your photo you're a big Nigella fan!
