THE UNOFFICIAL MAD MEN COOKBOOK

As someone with a number of titles in my collection such as The Coronation Street Cookbook, The Sopranos Cookbook and The Desperate Housewives Cookbook, it is obvious that I would greet the Mad Men Cookbook with extravagant enthusiasm. And I couldn’t resist this recipe for cream cheese and nut balls – the perfect appetiser for your suitably retro cocktail hour.

CREAM CHEESE AND NUT BALLS

(From the Vogue book of menus and recipes by Jessica Daves, Harper Row, 1964)

INGREDIENTS

  • 8 ounces salted almonds
  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 dashes Tabasco
  • Crackers, for serving

 

METHOD

  1. Grind almonds in a grinder or food processor. Mix crushed almods with cheeses and Tabasco until all are smoothly mixed.
  2. Chill thoroughly, then mold into balls about 1/2 inch in diameter.  Chill again before serving. Serve with crackers.

YEILD- 36-40 balls
