Although I think it is a duty to appreciate the good things in life (and by that I mean what used to be called blessings) I also feel a little anxious and apprehensive about shouting from the rooftops how lucky I am. I am the least superstitious person in the world, and yet I do - in some primitive, deeply buried way - fear the Evil Eye. But nevertheless, I do feel lucky, enormously lucky, to have work that I truly love. I always find it hard to say which part of my job (as it were) I like best. Cooking and eating are obvious contenders. But I love the writing part, too. I always leave everything so late that I have got hardly any time to worry about writing; I just have time, and only just, to write! Filming might come lower down the list, but only because the hours are so long that I'm away from home too much. Otherwise, being with my crew is something I really relish, and look forward to - of course! - whenever I'm not shooting. But I think the best part is the 'making' of a book, and by that, I mean the photographic shoot. I've just done a couple of weeks, a bit hobbled because of my back, but there is something fantastic about seeing an idea come into being. My house looks like a car-boot sale and I've eaten more than is wise, but I couldn't be happier! I feel a bit mean telling you all this now, since the book won't actually be out till September 2010, but I had to share my enthusiasm with you. That, indeed, is at the heart of what this website is all about.....
