We are all at my mum's this year-22 of us and my brother's ordering a huge Kelly Bronze turkey which I'm gonna marinade in the brine (Nigellas super juicy roast turkey), a rib of beef with roast potatoes, sprouts, roast carrots, roast parsnips, bread sauce, horseradish sauce and for starters we are gonna have gravalax and prawns in garlic butter. Desserts: my mum's homemade profiteroles, Xmas pudding and a Strawberry flan.
Then in the evening we are going to a have a buffet with turkey and beef sandwiches, mini hamburgers and mini fish and chips, cold meats etc.
I love that time of year.

We're having Delia's roast goose with armagnac prunes, red cabbage, Brussels sprouts with chestnuts, and potatoes roasted in the goose fat, and (my favourite part of Christmas lunch) bread sauce. I shall be making my vegetarian sister a nut cutlet, but I shall make extra cos home made nut cutlets are so good!
Mince pies and Christmas pudding with fluffy brandy sauce (of course ;) ) to follow. My father loves to find the perfect wines for each course - we always have a wonderful pudding wine - it's the only time of year I drink it
We don't really eat dinner after all that - but there's usually room in the evenings for another mince pie or two

We will be at my mother's in Lisbon, as usual. With luck we'll be 16 on Christmas day, including 4 elderly people who have difficulty in chewing... so in addition to the Delia's turkey and the usual trimmings, I'm going to make some root vegetable mash and perhaps a soufflé of some kind, so that at least my mother can eat something! |

The spirit of Christmas is in the way you are all making food that family loves (and can eat), it's wonderful. We'll be having the Brined Turkey too, the Perfect Roast Potatoes, Bread Sauce, Redder than Red Cranberry Sauce, Turkey Gravy, Festive Ham, Brined Pork (from NC, name eludes me) (yes two porks my lovely man and father both adore pork of any type), Green Beans with Lemon, Honey Braised Carrots (kids especially adore these), peas (just because I don't think a roast is complete without peas). I'll be making one of Nigella's Cocktails, though not sure which, and ditto on the mocktails. For sweets we'll have Chocolate Christmas Cake and the Aussie Christmas Pudding (ice cream). For Christmas eve we have seafood now, rather than Christmas night, so that will be lots of cold fresh prawns, crayfish, oysters, fresh bread, mayo, lemon and Marie Rose or Thousand Island - is there a difference? - sauce with sparkling wine...I like it pink as it's so festive:) |

I've been eyeing up the espresso martini in her new Christmas book, don't know if I'd get anything done for the rest of the day though :-)
Is Aussie Christmas pudding a particular kind of ice cream? |
