Ritzy Chicken Nuggets

Asked by DPC. Answered on 31st October 2013

Full question

Hi. I'm looking forward to trying Nigella's Ritzy Chicken Nuggets when my nieces come to stay! Is it possible, though, to cook them in the oven, and if so what temperature? Thanks!

Our answer

It is possible to bake Nigella's Ritzy Chicken Nuggets (from Feast and on the Nigella website) but we would mention that in our experience the baked forms of nuggets and goujons are never quite the same as the fried versions. However, as the chicken is marinated in buttermilk it will bake fairly well and should not become too dry in the oven. Ritz cracker crumbs contain a bit of oil as well which will also help with oven baking.

So if you do want to bake the nuggets then we would suggest preheating the oven to 200c/400F. Put the nuggets on a baking sheet lined with baking parchment (parchment paper) and bake for about 20 minutes, until the chicken is cooked through and the cracker crumbs are slightly darker in colour. You may like to turn the nuggets over after about 15 minutes. The cooking time may vary a bit as it will depend on how thick and large the nuggets are, but check after 20 minutes by cutting one in half. If the chicken is not cooked through (if the juices are still slightly pink) then give the nuggets another 3 to 5 minutes before checking again.
