Too Large Tiramisu

Asked by Dolores56. Answered on 29th August 2015

Full question

Does Nigella use the full amount of 400g of savoiardi in the Irish Cream Tiramisu recipe? My 22cm dish does not hold the full amount.

Our answer

Nigella's Irish Cream Tiramisu (from Nigella Express and on the Nigella website) uses 400g savoiardi biscuits (also called sponge fingers or ladyfinger cookies) and 500g mascarpone cheese and this should give enough to fill a standard 22cm/8-inch square baking dish. You may be able to see from the photograph that the dish is a fairly regular Pyrex dish and these are usually 5-6cm/2-2 1/4 inches deep. This should be large enough to allow for 2 layers of savoiardi biscuits and 3 layers of mascarpone cream.

If your dish is slightly smaller and there are some ingredients left over then the extra could be made up into individual portions in glasses. You would only need to add a broken up savoiardi into the base of each glass, rather then doing several layers. Nigella's Tiramisini recipe (from Nigellissima and on the Nigella website) is a good guideline for how to make individual versions.
