  • Which recipe? Choc cake & sauce, pudding & syrup

    I once or twice watched Nigella making a fabulous chocolate cake upon which she poured boiling water about half way through the baking process then let it rest ! the finished product looked too divine for words ! Never tried it as I like chocolate far too much but my daughter doens´t believe this is true ! Help me prove I am not batty.......yet ! Thank you.

    Sorry if i'm not clear about this, it's just because i'm from Argentina and i can't speak english as well as you :) I'd like to know the recipe about a pie that Nigella cooks in her show "Nigella bites" (which i see in Fox Life), where she uses just 3 ingredients (flour, milk and eggs, i think) and then she puts the mix in the oven, where there was a pan previously heated with a quite amount of oil. I remember it takes only 15 minutes to cook, and then she tries it with cream. I hope you can help me 'cause i thought it was so easy and useful, but i can't remember the exactly amounts.     The chocolate cake that you describe is actually a dessert called Sticky Chocolate Pudding which is a chocolate sponge cake which creates its own chocolate sauce as it bakes. The chocolate sauce appears as a "surprise" on the bottom of the sponge as you spoon it out of the pan. It is a popular hot dessert in the UK and is equally as good served cold if you do happen to have any left over. Nigella's original recipe is in How To Eat (p221)and there is a Chilli-Cinnamon version in Feast (p229).

    The dessert shown in Nigella Bites is a traditional Yorkshire pudding which is baked in the oven but served as a dessert with golden syrup and cream rather than in the more traditional manner as a side dish to roast beef. It is really a baked crepe (thin pancake) mixture and is similar to a German or Dutch baby pancake. The recipe actually appears in Nigella's first book How To Eat (p287 and p281). If you can't find golden syrup then light corn syrup, agave syrup or honey can be used instead.
