You know the drill... Tomorrow you have to get your picture taken, you're maid/matron of honor, or in some fashion or other you're in the spotlight. Problem: something HUGE & red is growing right in the middle of your face. Don't pick at it or stab it with a needle. Mix a bit of surgical alcohol (90° proof) with corn flour into a paste and dab it onto that monster. Go to bed. Tomorrow, once you've washed off the cornflour, chances are you won't see a thing. All dried out & gone. Phew!

Make your own hair gel from flax seeds. 1 part seeds to 4 parts water, bring to the boil and simmer for a couple of minutes. Strain through a sieve, add a few drops of essential oil if you like. It will keep in the fridge for 3-4 days. Brilliant for curly hair.

I use half a cup of olive oil mixed with a few drops of lavender oil on my hair once a week to keep it shiny and healthy. I leave it on for an hour, wash with warm-hot water, shampoo once or twice, condition and thats it! If you want a super treatment, put on a plastic cap and sleep with it. Wash it in the morning!

When you burn yourself (on anything but hot water, then this trick does not work) try to rub on some pure powder borax on the burn. Because it deprives the skin of oxygen you wil nogt get blisters and it takes the burn out of the heat.

If you have been preparing fish and can't wash off that fishy smell, just rub your hands on stainless steel (the sink or blunt edge of a knife or any stainless steel surface) for a few moments and rinse . Voila smell gone! Works for garlic hands too!

Keep to hand some Slippery Elm Powder (in Health Food shops for eczema). Mix a small amount into some water to make a paste, apply to the burn and wrap in a thin bandage. Leave on skin and will take the heat out of burns as well as reduce any blisters or small scaring.

Word of caution when using mangoes and cashews... Mangoes and cashews are in the same family as poison ivy, poison oak, and poison sumac. Individuals who are very allergic to poison ivy, oak, or sumac, may need to avoid the skin of mangoes or consumption of too many cashews. Speaking from experience, the effects of coming into contact with the skin of mangoes or eating cashews is not terribly pleasant.

I know this is going to sound crazy, but if you burn a fingertip grab onto your earlobe and the stinging stops instantly. My Uncle taught me that. I guess the heat transfers to the lobe somehow...I don't know how it works but I've done it a number of times over the years and it really works.
