My husband and I love this recipe especially since we get locally grown lamb! We do use red lentils in place of the green ones.
MarycwrBeing a vegetarian I decided to try this recipe using Vegie Mince and found it to work just as it would have with minced meat. It really is a satisfying meal served just as it is or, as I did, with a fresh baguette used to dip.
Katerina88Can I ask...is there any optional ingredient instead of Marsala? Thanks for the answer.
barborabaHi Barboraba, The Marsala can be substituted with either red wine or sherry.
webmistressA wonderful and quick recipe! I used locally grown lamb and it was so wonderful. I didn't have any onions but it tasted just great (maybe it will taste better next time!). I also used a red wine I had around the house. Smelled great when it was cooking.
CapChoirGirlMy eight year old daughter and I saw this recipe on Nigella's program. Where can you find jarred carmelized onions? This looked delicious! Thanks...
mom24This is a magical Nigella recipe. So easy to prepare and yet so much flavour. Thank you Nigella for introducing me to caramelized onions, they are such a terrific standby ingredient. However, if I don't have any to hand I find Nigella's Onion Mush from HTE (I keep a supply in the freezer) offer the same deep depth of flavour. I tend to add a little more onion mush if using than I would the jarred caramelized onions. I find myself making this at least once a week. We love it tossed through pasta. The flavours are even better the next day, that is if you have any leftover!
Charlie1I thought I recall red lentils being used, but the recipe calls for green lentils...anyone? Does anyone know if the difference in lentils used varys the flavor? Thanks
vigirlThis receipe is fantastic and very easy to make, my husband has made this on many occasions, very tasty.
Lynsay1This makes a gorgeous pasta sauce- I love stirring in my little tortellini dumplings before topping with parmesan cheese.
SpuntinoI've made this last night for the first time. Me and my husband loved it.
I cut the ingredients in half, but still used the entire can of diced tomatoes and I used a lot more lentils. I didn't use the onions, since you can't find those jarred in our local supermarket, so I have to try adding those the next time.
It looked a little like a very thick bolognese sauce, but with mashed potatoes instead of pasta.
DELICIOUS!
