Melt butter and golden syrup or light corn syrup together over a low heat. Mix soda with boiling water, then stir into butter/syrup mix. Stir wet ingredients into dry. Take two teaspoonfuls of mix (about walnut size) and place on greased trays. Leave a few centimetres between each.
Cook in slow oven, 150 degrees, for about 15-20 minutes.
The biscuits should be firming up around the edges, but still slightly soft in the middle. Loosen them while still warm, but leave to cool on the trays.
