Introduction

Smooth apple crisp. Delicious reheated. Other fruits may be substituted for the apples.

Ingredients

Serves: 6-8

For the Filling

  • 5 apples

For the Crust

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup cake flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 12½ teaspoons nutmeg
  • ½ cup butter (or margarine)

Method

  • Fill well-greased oven dish with thin slices of apples which have been peeled and cored.
  • Mix together sugar, flour, salt and nutmeg.
  • Work butter into dry ingredients with a pastry blender until the mixture is like course corn meal.
  • Pat mixture on top of apples to form a top crust. There is no bottom crust.
  • Bake in a moderate oven, 325 degrees F. for 50 minutes.
  • Cook and serve from the dish. It's delicious topped with whipped cream or ice cream as well as fresh cream.
