Ingredients

Metric Cups
  • 250 grams butter
  • 150 grams dark chocolate
  • 440 grams caster sugar
  • 250 millilitres water
  • 80 millilitres tia maria (or Kahlua)
  • 1 tablespoon instant coffee (powdered)
  • 225 grams plain flour
  • 35 grams self-raising flour
  • 25 grams cocoa powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 9 ounces butter
  • 5 ounces bittersweet chocolate
  • 16 ounces superfine sugar
  • 8⅘ fluid ounces water
  • 2⅘ fluid ounces tia maria (or Kahlua)
  • 1 tablespoon instant coffee (powdered)
  • 8 ounces all-purpose flour
  • 1 ounce self-rising flour
  • 1 ounce unsweetened cocoa
  • 2 eggs

Method

  • Combine butter, chocolate, sugar, water, liqueur and coffee powder, stir over a low heat until chocolate is melted.
  • Transfer to large mixing bowl and cool. Stir in sifted flours and cocoa, then eggs, one at a time.
  • Pour mixture into a prepared 20cm cake tin.
  • Bake in moderate slow oven for 1hr 30mins (approx).
  • Stand cake for 30 minutes, cooling on a wire rack.
