Metric Cups
  • 2 lamb shanks
  • lamb stock
  • 250 millilitres red wine
  • garlic (as much or a little as you like)
  • fresh rosemary (as much or a little as you like)

Method

Slow Cooked Lamb Shanks in Red Wine and Garlic is a community recipe submitted by niblet and has not been tested by Nigella.com so we are not able to answer questions regarding this recipe.

  • Preheat slow cooker.
  • Heat stock, wine, garlic and rosemary in a pan.
  • Put shanks in slow cooker and pour over enough hot stock, etc. to cover. Put the lid on and leave for at least 6 hours - it's that simple!
  • I usually serve these as part of a roast dinner and put the shanks in the oven for the last 20 minutes to crisp the outside.
  • Reduce the cooking liquid to make a fab gravy. Be careful taking these out of the cooker as the meat will fall off the bone!

    • Recipe says 6 hours. Most slow cookers have low or high settings, and I use the rule of thumb: 4 hours or less, high; 4 hours or more, low.

    • This may be a daft question, but what heat do you preheat your slow cooker to? I just bought one, have never used it, but want to try this recipe as I love lamb shanks (it's why I bought the slow cooker!). Mine has warm, low, high or off.... well I know off isn't going to cook anything, but....
