Sofia's Chocolate Cake

Introduction

This chocolate cake recipe my mum had from a news paper cutting from when I was little, the date on the paper was before I was born 1974, its the best chocolate cake recipe and I bake all the time. I have adjusted it slightly over the years. The result is much better the day after making it, wrap in foil. Try it!! I usually make a ganache to put on top, and it is very moist and chocolately!!

Ingredients

Serves: 6

Metric Cups
  • 150 grams self-raising flour
  • 150 grams sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 5 tablespoons corn oil
  • 5 tablespoons water
  • 2 eggs (separated)
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 dash milk
  • 5 ounces self-rising flour
  • 5 ounces sugar
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
  • 5 tablespoons corn oil
  • 5 tablespoons water
  • 2 eggs (separated)
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 dash milk

Method

Sofia's Chocolate Cake is a community recipe submitted by SOFIAUK25 and has not been tested by Nigella.com so we are not able to answer questions regarding this recipe.

  • Preheat oven to 180ºc
  • Mix all dry ingredients together, sieving flour, cocoa and baking powder.
  • Mix yolks with oil and water. Add yolk mix to dry ingredients, mix well (this is when I add the dash of milk, because the mixture is very thick)
  • Whisks egg whites until soft peaks and fold into chocolate mix with a metal spoon.
  • Now I turn it into fairy cakes or I also double the recipe and make it into one large cake. Fairy cakes take from 15-20mins and a larger cake will take 25-35 mins.

    • Oh My God what can i say this is the best chocolate cake i have ever made!! and put it this way we have moved and the oven i have at the moment burns just about everything but it came out like i was using a top of the range cooker, I put some gorgeous chocolate and cream icing on top and my son done the usual thing threw smarties all over it,and masterchef here i come it was gorgeous thank you so much I have copied the recipe into my recipe book and I have already called my friend and gave her the recipe! Ok i am now going back to get another bit i think i will have to give the bikini body a miss this year!!!
