The Best Ever Garlic Bread

Introduction

This is a intense garlicky, buttery and lemony garlic bread that evolved from experimenting with various ingredients. The lemon zest cuts through the richness of the very garlicky butter making this a real joy to eat. Thankfully, both my husband and I are garlic lovers.

Ingredients

Serves: 4-6

Metric Cups
  • 1 ciabatta
  • 100 grams unsalted butter
  • 1 bulb of garlic (although you could use less if you aren't a complete garlic fiend like me)
  • 1 lemon (zest of)
  • 1 teaspoon Maldon sea salt flakes
  • 1 handful fresh flatleaf parsley (chopped - or chives)
  • 1 ciabatta
  • 4 ounces unsalted butter
  • 1 head of garlic (although you could use less if you aren't a complete garlic fiend like me)
  • 1 lemon (zest of)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 handful fresh italian parsley (chopped - or chives)

  • Preheat the oven to whatever temperature the package says to cook the ciabatta loaf at. Slice the ciabatta in half lengthways and put it on a baking tray
  • Peel the garlic cloves.
  • Melt the butter in a small saucepan and then crush in all the cloves of garlic from the bulb. (If you don't have a garlic crusher, then finely grate them in advance and add the grated garlic to the butter) Let the garlic cook in the butter for a few minutes then smear/pour the buttery garlic mixture all over the ciabatta.
  • Grate the lemon zest and scatter the sea salt over the top of the bread.
  • Bake in the oven for about 10-15 minutes or according to the package instructions. The smell is absolutely divine.
  • When it is ready, the garlic should be a lovely golden colour. Take it out of the oven, grate a little extra lemon zest over the top for freshness and then snip over your chives or scatter freshly chopped parsley over the top.
