What does this mean?

Lovely soft, rich scones. Buttermilk is always used in Ireland and produces lovely light scones

Ingredients

Switch to Cup Measures
  • 225 grams wholemeal flour
  • 225 grams plain flour
  • 50 grams wheat bran
  • 50 grams porridge oats
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 400 ml buttermilk

Method

  1. Place flour(s) oats and bran (if using), salt and soda bic.into a large bowl.
  2. Add beaten egg honey and some of the buttermilk.
  3. Mix quickly and lightly to form a soft but NOT sticky dough.
  4. Add a little more milk if it is too dry.
  5. Add some more flour if it is too wet.
  6. When it has come together, tip it out onto a floured surface.
  7. Handle very lightly and pat into a round 3-4mm thick.
  8. Cut into the required size and place on a greased, floured baking sheet.
  9. Bake at 200.C/180.CFan/400.F/gas6
