Can I cook Ham In Coca Cola in the slow cooker? I adore this recipe but just wondering if it may be easier to do in the slow cooker.
Nigella's Ham In Coca Cola (from NIGELLA BITES) cooks a raw gammon ham by simmering it very slowly in Coca Cola. The ham is glazed in a hot oven at the end. The slow simmering part of the recipe could be done in a slow cooker but you should first check that the ham can fit into the slow cooker and still have enough space left for the cola to completely cover the ham.
Slow cookers vary so you should check the handbook from your model for the instructions for cooking hams. As slow cookers use very gentle heat it is likely that the cooking time will be longer than in Nigella's stove top method. Check that the ham is fully cooked though before removing it from the slow cooker, it should have reached an internal temperature of at least 72c/160F at the very centre of the ham. The ham should then be glazed in a hot oven, following the recipe instructions.
