How Much Cola Do I Need For Ham In Coca-Cola?

Asked by jerihalliwell. Answered on 18th July 2014

Full question

Hello, I was looking at the Ham in Coca-Cola recipe from How to Eat and it says it only uses 2 Tablespoons of cola. Is this correct? It doesn't seem to be enough cola. Thank you.

Our answer

Nigella's Ham In Coca-Cola recipe from How To Eat uses the Coca-Cola in two stages but the recipe states that you need 2 litres (8 cups) of cola to start with. From this 2 litres you reserve 2 tablespoons to use for the final mustard and breadcrumb coating and you use the rest of the cola for cooking the gammon.

So we suspect that you are looking only at the ingredients for the final coating. If you live in the US then most hams there are pre-cooked and should be reheated following the producer's instructions, then finished with the cola and breadcrumb mixture. You may also like to look at the slightly more streamlined version of the Ham In Coca Cola that appears in Nigella Bites and is also on the NIgella website.
