Our answer

Nigella's Old Fashioned Chocolate Cake (from FEAST) is a layered/sandwich cake and the layers are baked separately. Part of the reason for baking the layers separately is that they bake quickly and this prevents the sponge from drying out in the oven. For this reason we prefer to bake the cake using two sandwich/cake tins.

If you use one tin then you would need a deep, springform pan rather than trying to bake the mixture in one regular cake tin, as the mixture will overflow as it bakes in a regular cake tin. The baking temperature is usually the same but the baking time is likely to be 35-45 minutes. However, we have not tried the cake in this form so are unable to guarantee the results.
