Introduction

Well this parties, are also named FORRÓ, from the English For All. In 18 and 19 centuries English engineers was here in my state (Minas Gerais - General Mines) to dig gold and build Railroads (to transport the gold). In the winter (June and July) people celebrate some catholic Saints, so English people do some parties and invited all workers, the rich and the poor ones, so they call party For All, but simple people called those parties Forró. They build a huge camp fires and drink and eat hot dishes and hot drinks.

  • 1 pound white hominy
  • 1⅔ pints milk
  • ½ cup grated coconut
  • ½ cup coconut milk
  • ½ cup roasted, crushed peanuts
  • 1 cup superfine sugar
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • cinnamon spalls

Method

  1. Wash and drain hominy. Then place grains in a non-metallic bowl and soak overnight.
  2. Pour soaked grains with the remaining water in a pressure cooker. Cook for about 20 minutes after the regulator starts to blow steam or until tender.
  3. In a large saucepan, bring the milk to boil. Drain the hot grains in a colander and add immediately to boiling milk.
  4. Combine the spices: grated coconut, coconut milk, roasted peanuts, sugar ,pinch of salt (little, little bit) and cinnamon spalls Remember is a winter dish, good to warm your bones beside the fire, it's not really a dessert to eat after main dish, it is for winter backwards party!
