Ingredients

Serves: 10

Metric Cups
  • 200 grams butter
  • 113 grams cocoa
  • 454 grams brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 225 grams plain flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 113 grams walnuts (chopped)
  • 7 ounces butter
  • 4 ounces unsweetened cocoa
  • 16 ounces brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 8 ounces all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 ounces walnuts (chopped)

Method

  • Preheat oven 180C and grease 30x20 tin
  • Put butter and cocoa in big pan and melt gently DON'T BOIL. Add sugar and vanilla stir really well!
  • Take off heat sift in flour.
  • Add eggs beat really well (easy enough by hand) Add chopped walnuts (optional)
  • Spread evenly in tin bake 20-25 mins When cool can ice with a thick chocolate icing but by no means need it!!!

    • This mixture did not mix easily and looked the wrong consistency prior to baking- too stiff and dry. The quantity of sugar also seemed too much for the receipe. Result- too sweet and not something I would make again.

    • I knew as soon as you said you could easily beat this together that it wasn't going to work. It stays completely stuck to the spoon and cannot be beaten. This recipe simply does not work. I've wasted all these ingredients and should have used another recipe.

    • Very simple recipe. Had me a little worried but it turned out quite nicely. I added chocolate chips, will add nuts next time though.
