This recipe says it all. You need no more than a few minutes to load up a couple of freezer bags with ribs and chicken, oils and unguents and then, after a day or so's untroublesome marinating in the fridge, you tip out the contents into a roasting tray and slot it in the oven. Your input is minimal, but what you get out is a big feast that feels homey and welcoming and makes everyone happy, you included.

Hey! Even as I'm reading this, my maple chicken'n'ribs is marinating away in the fridge. And yes - I feel quite smug in the knoweldge that all I need to do is tip them onto my roasting dish & bung them in the oven. I've pre-bribed my husband to do a potatoe bake to go with. Yay :)

My children and I tried this recipe for dinner and we absolutely loved it! It was easy and a welcome change from our regular meals. It will definitely become one of our "family recipes"!

Could you use this marinating receipe with prawns, if so would you have to use pre cooked or raw prawns?

We love this recipe. It's easy, it smells good, it tastes of sunday morning. Sometimes I add some beer and use the marinate to prepare turkey thighs: they are excellent.

Love it. One of our favorites. I use the same marinate with turkey thighs, adding a little beer with the apple juice, it's a nice variation.

One of our favourite recipes to share with friends and family. First time I made it for a large amount of family on New Years Eve, needless to say there was nothing left of the three large oven dishes! Since then success is repeated. I have tried it with chicken drumsticks. As well as pork steaks (when not able to find unmarinated ribs).

Will be making this tomorrow since it sounds just wonderful!! Due to heritage, Holland has some wonderful Indonesian influences in the kitchen. One of my most beloved ingredients is Kecap Manis; a sweet, treacle-ish soy sauce. Combined with that star anise, garlic, red peppers, cinnamon, lime juice, smoked paprika and brown sugar, this also makes for one mean marinade. Nigella, you should try it!

Can't wait to try this tomorrow - got a bag of ribs, minus the chicken, marinating in the fridge now - to enjoy with home made bread.

We tried this once when friends came over for dinner. So it was a surprise for us too, how good it tasted. Thank you Nigella, for the inspiration.
