What does this mean?

These are my grandmother's version of Welsh Cakes and were always cooked on a bakestone, although you could use a heavy based frying pan.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb flour
  • ½ lb butter
  • ½ lb sugar
  • 6 oz currants
  • 2 beaten eggs

Method

  1. Rub fat into flour as if making pastry, add sugar and fruit and mix well together.
  2. Add enough egg to combine and make a dough.
  3. Roll out and cut with pastry cutter and cook on lightly greased bakestone (or heavy bottomed frying pan) for a few minutes on each side until lightly browned.
