Our answer

Nigella's Devil's Food Cake (from KITCHEN) is a moist chocolate cake with a rich fudge-like frosting. You can certainly halve the ingredients and make just one single layer in a regular cake pan, though the cake will be slightly skinny.

If you are using a deeper springform pan then it is a bit more tricky as the cake batter is very liquid, which helps to give a moist cake but can seep out of the edges of even a tightly-sealed springform pan. Instead, you may like to try Nigella's Chocolate Olive Oil Cake, using plain (all-purpose) flour rather than almonds. If you need frosting then you could make half of the Devil's Food Cake frosting and swirl it generously over the top of the cooled Chocolate Olive Oil Cake.
