Ideas for Christmas Day Food

Asked by cam688. Answered on 25th December 2014

Full question

I'm hosting a big Christmas next year (2015), with the family around (about 20 people). So this year is a practice run and I need ideas for a nice soup, starter, main and pudding. Hope you can help! Thanks, Cameron

Our answer

Nigella has several books that have sections devoted to Christmas-oriented recipes (Feast, Nigellissima, Domestic Goddess), plus a whole book of Christmas recipes and entertaining suggestions (Christmas) and you may lile to browse some of these. We also suggest that you look in the recipes section of Nigella's website where she has a section on Christmas with plenty of suggestions for food and cocktails.

If you are looking at a very traditional menu then Chestnut Soup With Bacon Crumbles (from Christmas) is suitably seasonal and the Spiced And Super-Juicy Turkey (from Christmas and on the Nigella website) is a go-to main course. If you want to cook ham as an alternative (or in addition to) the turkey then Nigella's Ham In Coca-Cola (from Nigella Bites and on the Nigella website) is always popular. The Ultimate Christmas Pudding (from Christmas and on the Nigella website) has been enjoyed by many people (and it isn't too late to make one now) or for a lighter alternative try a trifle, pavlova or Nigella's Italian Christmas Pudding Cake (from Nigellissima and on the Nigella website).
