White Chocolate In Snow Flecked Brownies

Full question

I don't like white chocolate so can I omit the white chocolate in the recipe for Snow-Flecked Brownies or shall I replace with the same amount of dark chocolate? Thank you.

Our answer

Nigella's Snow-Flecked Brownies (from FEAST) get their white flecks from white chocolate chips or chopped white chocolate. This gives them a slightly Christmassy feel. However the white chocolate is a mix-in rather than being an integral part of the brownie batter so it can be changed or omitted.

Dark (bittersweet) chocolate or milk chocolate chips (or chopped chocolate) are both good alternatives. You could also consider using roughly chopped unsalted nuts. Macademia nuts would give a similar white-flecked visual effect, or walnuts or pecans are both popular in brownies. Alternative chocolates or nuts should be used in the same quantities as for the white chocolate. For a slightly different brownie you may also like to try Nigella's Bacon Brownies.
