Good gravy this was a fun one! I have wanted to make a Yule Log for the past several Christmases now, but lacked the confidence and time to put forth an attempt. This year I went for it, with Nigella's patient and comforting guidance emitting forth like a beacon from my Yuletide Bible. There was a minor struggle with the rolling (lots of cracks and breaks) but the frosting and the fact that it's supposed to look gnarled and rugged (it's modeled after a tree in winter, they have to be tough) helped to camouflage that quite well I think. Ultimately I had fun, it tasted great, and it combines my two greatest loves; chocolate cake and Christmas cheer.
