I returned from a brief visit to family in Hawaii last week, with a can of tinned cranberry jelly and a packet of Stove Top stuffing (because why wouldn't you try what's always on American TV!) Two of my boys are away at uni and one remains home, and I asked them if they'd all get together for a Turkey dinner. There were conditions attached; bread sauce for middle child (Nigella's obviously, and a Christmas staple), Yorkshire puddings for the oldest because every roast needs them, and for the youngest, sweet potato with marshmallows. It was a bit of a rush process with various commitments and my being on call and possibly having to vanish at any moment, so I worked with what I could get in Lidl. Big BBQ sized marshmallows cut in half had to do. The potatoes I roasted the night before as per the recipe, and added everything else, as per the recipe, leaving the marshmallows to add the next day. As you can see, the marshmallows pulled away a bit. I probably could have added more or given it an extra minute? I don't know, and I'll be honest, it's not something I will often return too because we prefer our turkey dinners more savoury. But for our little family gathering after a time away from them all, it made it all the more perfect.
