It's a proper weekend of celebrations we have ahead of us: St Patrick's Day on Saturday followed smartly by Mothering Sunday. That's the reason we've got two cakes as recipe of the day (where you see the What We're Cooking Today sign on the homepage). I'm not sure I'd be happy about letting St Paddy's Day go past without one of my Chocolate Guinness Cakes and although there is no absolute need to go in for cake-baking on Mother's Day, I just couldn't stop myself choosing my granny's Coffee and Walnut Layer Cake; it's what I would be making for my mother, were she still alive.
Not that it matters if you don't bake a thing: the important thing is to enjoy the weekend, and each other.
