Introduction

This cake or 'kek' in Malay language is soo simple and easy to make. It is a steam based cake and using not so many ingredients in it.

Ingredients

Serves: 4-6

  • 9 ounces butter
  • ¾ cup superfine sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup sweetened condensed milk
  • ½ cup horlicks
  • ½ cup nestum
  • ½ cup kaya (or any fruit jam)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 1 drop green food colouring

  • Preheat the steamer.
  • Beat the butter and sugar until creamy and fluffy. Add in the egg one at a time. Do not over beat because it will make your cake dry.
  • Add in the fruit jem or Kaya together with the milk and vanilla essence. Beat until all mixed and combined together.
  • With a lower speed, add in the flour and the nestum baby cereal ( you can use oat too ) a bit at once. After the mixture's well combined, drop some green color.
  • Grease the baking pan with butter and pour all the mixture in. Cover with aluminium foil.
  • Steam for 3-4 hours. Do not open the steamer lid before 1 hour. It's better to check the water level after 2 hours and make sure you add hot water instead of cold water.
