Tasty beef hamburgers

Ingredients

Serves: as required

Metric Cups
  • 500 grams minced beef (lean)
  • 1 splash of worcestershire sauce (a good splash)
  • 1 medium onion (finely chopped)
  • 5 slices bread (day-old, discard the crusts and pull into little bits - 1cm x 1cm)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 handful fresh mint (a good handful, chopped)
  • hamburger rolls
  • mature cheddar (slices)
  • baby spinach
  • tomato (sliced)
  • mayonnaise
  • mint jelly
  • 17⅔ ounces ground beef (lean)
  • 1 splash of worcestershire sauce (a good splash)
  • 1 medium onion (finely chopped)
  • 5 slices bread (day-old, discard the crusts and pull into little bits - 1cm x 1cm)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 handful fresh mint (a good handful, chopped)
  • hamburger rolls
  • mature cheddar (slices)
  • baby spinach
  • tomato (sliced)
  • mayonnaise
  • mint jelly

Method

  • Combine beef, Worcester sauce, onion, bread, egg and mint in a mixing bowl and refrigerate 1-2 hours or overnight.
  • Make into patties and cook as desired in oiled frypan or on barbie.
  • Leave patties to cool slightly while lightly toasting buns.
  • Mix equal amounts of mayonnaise and mint jelly in a small bowl to make dressing.
  • Assemble burgers with patties topped with cheese, tomato, spinach and dressing. Bon Appetite!

    • This is a fantastic recipe! The mint adds a real freshness to the mince patties. I made a few small amendments to the recipe, which I was quite happy with: - used the food processor to make crumbs out of the bread. This way you don't even have to discard the crusts. - added some hot sauce, garlic and olive oil into the mince mixture. - used the food processor to mix everything together. This resulted in a really well-combined, well-chopped mince mixture. - put cheese on the buns before toasting them in the oven, because melted cheese is awesome!
