Shoo-Fly Pie

The most amazingly (and surprisingly, given the ingredients) delicious pie you'll ever eat.


Serves: 4

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup vegetable shortening
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ cup molasses (or corn syrup, or a combination of both)
  • ½ cup boiling water
  • pie pastry (for 9 inch single crust pie)

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Mix first 4 ingredients with pastry blender to make coarse crumbs. Save 3/4 cup for topping.
  • Combine syrup and water. Stir into crumbs. Pour into unbaked pie crust, top with crumbs.
  • Bake anywhere from 30-60 minutes, until cake tester comes out of the middle clean.
  • Best cool, but lukewarm or straight from the oven aren't too shabby either!
