Ingredients

Metric Cups

For the Cake

  • 235 grams dates
  • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 120 grams butter (soft)
  • 5 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 300 millilitres wheat
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 100 grams dark chocolate

For the Caramel

  • 120 grams butter
  • 115 grams brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • 50 millilitres cream

For the Cake

  • 8 ounces dates
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 4 ounces butter (soft)
  • 5 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 10½ fluid ounces wheat
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 4 ounces bittersweet chocolate

For the Caramel

  • 4 ounces butter
  • 4 ounces brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • 1¾ fluid ounces cream

Method

Cake:

  • Put the dates in a pot, fill it with water until the dates are under water. Let it boil, turn the heat off, and let it wait in the pot for a few minutes.
  • Add the bicarbonate of soda.
  • Mix the butter and sugar, add the eggs, one at a time. Then add the flour, vanilla drops, salt and sodium bicarbonate.
  • Then add the dates slowely to the mix.
  • Heat the oven to 180 °C and bake for 30-40 minutes.
  • Caramel sauce:

  • Put all the ingredients in a pot, let it boil, turn the heat down and simmer for a few minutes. Stirring the whole time.

    • Best, easiest recipe ever for caramel sauce! You can add some Baileys instead of the cream for a different taste. Fabulous on vanilla ice-cream!
