Ingredients

Serves: Large loaf

Metric Cups
  • 200 grams plain flour
  • 350 grams wholemeal flour
  • 1 handful wheat bran
  • 2 tablespoons linseed
  • 2 tablespoons sunflower seeds
  • 2 tablespoons pumpkin seeds
  • 2 tablespoons hazelnuts (coarsely chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon treacle
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 474 millilitres milk
  • 7 ounces all-purpose flour
  • 12 ounces whole wheat flour
  • 1 handful wheat bran
  • 2 tablespoons linseed
  • 2 tablespoons sunflower seeds
  • 2 tablespoons pumpkin seeds
  • 2 tablespoons hazelnuts (coarsely chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 16⅝ fluid ounces milk

Method

Brown Bread the Easy Way is a community recipe submitted by nelzer and has not been tested by Nigella.com so we are not able to answer questions regarding this recipe.

  • Mix all dry ingredients. Add treacle and about 3/4 of a pint of milk, mix to make a stiff dough, add more milk as needed - should be stiff not runny.
  • Pour into a 2lb loaf tin, buttered or lined with baking paper.
  • Bake at 180C/350F/gas 4 for 1 hour, as with all bread should sound hollow when you tap the bottom if cooked, if not put back in oven without tin for 10 mins. Cool on wire rack.
