Can I Make Pecan Plus Pie In A Smaller Tart Pan?

Full question
I want to make the Pecan Plus Pie, but only have a 9-inch flan dish - can I use the same amount of filling?
Our answer
Nigella's Pecan Plus Pie (from NIGELLA CHRISTMAS) gives pecan pie a slightly British edge by using unsalted mixed nuts rather than just pecans. The crust is extremely easy as it is flour, oil and milk mixed together to make a rough dough that is then pressed into the pan.
If you are using a 9-inch tart pan rather than a 10-inch pan, then theoretically you should reduce the filling by 20 percent. If your tart pan is very deep then you may be able to use the full amount of filling, though you should not fill the pie crust completely to the top as the filling could bubble up over the edges of the dish during baking. You could always keep the ingredient quantites the same and make the excess dough and filling into individual tarts by pressing the dough into 2-3 cups of a muffin pan and filling the crusts with the remaining filling (the baking time is likely to be about 15 minutes). If you want to reduce the filling quantity, then you would need 120g golden syrup (about 1/3 cup plus 1 tablespoon), 80g butter (about 5 tablespoons), 160g brown sugar (about 3/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon), 280g mixed nuts (about 2 1/2 cups) and 2 eggs plus 1 egg yolk. The baking time may be slightly shorter, so start checking the pie after 30 minutes.
