I'd like to make the Chocolate Meringue Truffle Cake non alcoholic, but what can I use as a substitute for the rum?

Nigella's Chocolate Meringue Truffle Cake (from FEAST) has a thin disc of cocoa-flavoured meringue topped with a truffle-like ganache filling that includes some rum. The rum adds a little kick but is mostly there to boost the flavour of the chocolate.
It is possible to make the truffle filling without alcohol. We would suggest using 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract as an alternative as vanilla is also a very complimentary flavour to chocolate. If you can use alcohol but don't have any rum, then brandy, bourbon or whisky would be good alternatives.
