Hello, my grandmother always put a jar of apple sauce in her fruitcakes. Could I change a Nigella recipe to add in apple sauce?

Nigella has several Christmas cake recipes, though none of them contain apple sauce. However Nigella's Easy Action Christmas Cake (from FEAST) uses sweetened chestnut puree (sometimes labelled as chestnut spread) in the cake batter. This gives a very moist cake, so you may like to try this as an alternative to the apple puree cake. The cake also keeps quite well if "fed" with alcohol after baking. It may be possible to use apple puree instead of the chestnut spread in this recipe, but as we have not tried the recipe with any alternatives we unfortunately cannot guarantee the results.
You may also like to consider Nigella's Chocolate Fruit Cake as this cake does not need to be made ahead and allowed to mature and you can also feed this cake with a little extra coffee liqueur after baking.
