Our answer

Nigella's Forgotten Cookies (from AT MY TABLE) are meringues that are studded with mini dark (bittersweet) chocolate chips and pistachios. We are not sure if the chips are to be used for baking or melting as sometimes Nigella has used larger "chocolate wafers", also known as callets, for melting, but if you are in the UK then the chocolate chips sold by most major supermarkets (usually in 100g bags) are mini size and are generally good for cookies and muffins, whether dark, milk or white chips. However we would not use these for melting.

In the US some supermarkets sell private (or own) label mini chocolate chips and these too are suitable for adding to cookies. US regular chocolate chips do tend to be larger than UK ones, so you do need to look for the packages labelled as mini chocolate chips. There are also several upmarket brands available in baking supply stores and online, though we prefer not to recommend specific brands as availability can vary so much. Again the mini chocolate chips are not good for melting. If you are going to melt the chocolate then it is usually more cost efficient to buy good quality bars of chocolate (with a minimum of 70% cocoa solids for dark/bittersweet chocolate) and chop the chocolate into small pieces before melting it.
