Even though we are several years into this millennium, the years written down still feel alarmingly sci-fi to me. As a child, I thought in the year 2018 we’d be wearing spacesuits and eating food in capsule form. Yet here we are, and I’m very grateful not to be subsisting on dehydrated and denatured nutrients but taking succour in Bowlfood. My Yellow Split Pea and Frankfurter Soup has long been a favourite way of mine to eat in the New Year, but if you feel you’ve had quite enough meat in the past few weeks, then know it is also very good made with vegetable stock and without the franks.
Another golden and uplifting bowl of deliciousness is offered by a new recipe of mine, from At My Table, the warmly spiced Moroccan Vegetable Pot with Couscous and I commend it enthusiastically to you. And when darkness falls so early and the air is chill, you can brighten up your days with the fiery and vibrant Butternut and Sweet Potato Curry, another new At My Table favourite. And, by the way, if you’re doing Veganuary this year (and it seems to me that increasing numbers are), these last two effortlessly and rewardingly (along with the frankfurter-free split pea soup) fit the bill. I suggest them here, however, primarily because they taste wonderful and make me grateful and glad. And it is in this spirit that I hope you can begin 2018. Happy New Year!
