Metric Cups
  • 4 tablespoons flour
  • 5 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 medium egg (lightly beaten)
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 3 tablespoons butter (melted)
  • 3 tablespoons chocolate chips (plus extra for sprinkling)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 medium egg (lightly beaten)
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 3 tablespoons butter (melted)

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method

  • First add the flour, sugar and cocoa into the mugs or the bowl; mix well.
  • Add the milk, butter/oil, chocolate chips and vanilla extract and stir well. Add the beaten egg.
  • Sprinkle with some chocolate chips and cover with a microwave proof cling film.
  • Microwave on medium-high for 1 minute and then for another 30 seconds. It should be cooked but moist and gooey in the middle.
  • Allow to cool and eat greedily with some cream or ice cream.

    • This is my go-to recipe for microwave chocolate pudding. Followed exactly, including cooking time, and is absolutely delicious served with vanilla ice cream. I microwave it in one portion in a breakfast bowl and then split out two portions post cooking. In my 800W microwave, this is perfectly cooked in 1m 30s, with just a little gooyness left to form a bit of sauce. Generous portions but the perfect amount for dessert lovers, in my opinion. Have made several times and will make several more. The best I have tried - better than a lot of chocolate restaurant desserts I've had! Use good quality cocoa and works well with sunflower oil too.

    • Was gorgeous but very rich! The mixture seemed very thick. I slightly tweaked the recipe for one mug used 1 small egg, & bout 5-6 tablespoons milk & cooked for 2 mins 15 seconds in an 800w microwave, ended up like a chocolate fondant in a mug Yum!!! Shared between 2 since was so rich & made in a large mug.

    • This was delicious! I only cooked for 1 minute as I tried one last week which I overcooked, so it was rubbery. This came out perfect, nice and light with plenty of gooeyness!

    • This really was lovely I followed the instructions and also used a mild light olive oil (because it saved on washing up!) and used large chunks of a good milk chocolate bar such as galaxy. Would make again may be with a bit more cocoa (another 1/2-1 tbsp) make sure its good quality cocoa!

    • This worked perfectly for me, I used oil instead of butter, and used SR flour. If people are having problems with the time I have to assume it is due to low power on the microwave or because they are trying to cook the whole batch in 1 minute instead of each cup (half the mix). Delicious, light and fluffy. I cooked mine in low shallow cereal bowls and gave them 1 minute 20 seconds each - perfectly moist.

    • Saw this recipe and just had to try it. I was desperate so i had to substitute nesquik for cocoa and chocolate syrup for chips. Took double the cook time but still tasted great.

    • This recipe is truly awful - doesn't cook for long enough, the measurements are all wrong. Don't waste your time - there are better recipes for mug cake on the web

    • Lovely but had to cook for twice as long as stated (maybe my microwave wattage is different) used a mug that holds a pint and it over flowed! Was lovely tho and enjoyed by 3 of us!!
