Ingredients

Metric Cups
  • 1 packet bread
  • 1 litre milk
  • 500 grams sugar
  • 250 grams double cream
  • 250 grams butter / ghee
  • 100 grams cashew nuts (chopped and roasted)
  • 100 grams almonds
  • 10 grams saffron
  • 5 cardamom powder
  • 1 packet bread
  • 1¾ pints milk
  • 18 ounces sugar
  • 9 ounces heavy cream
  • 9 ounces butter / ghee
  • 4 ounces cashew nuts (chopped and roasted)
  • 4 ounces almonds
  • ounce saffron
  • 5 cardamom powder

Method

  • Cut each bread slice into six pieces. Fry them in clarified butter till golden brown.
  • Make a sugar syrup by adding half a litre of water to the sugar and boil it for 15 minutes.
  • Add the powdered cardamom and the saffron dissolved in milk to the sugar syrup. Boil milk until it is thickened.
  • Arrange the fried bread pieces on a flat tray and sprinkle the chopped nuts on them.
  • Pour the sugar syrup, double cream and milk alternately over the bread pieces while they are still hot.
  • Refrigerate and serve as dessert.
