Incredibly Easy Chocolate Cake

Introduction

For the girls using the cup system; it doesn't get any easier then this. I feel this is totally not necessary to mention, but the this cake keeps very well...

Ingredients

Serves: 4-6

  • 1 cup sugar
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup water
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • 1½ cups self-rising flour

Method

Incredibly Easy Chocolate Cake is a community recipe submitted by Renske and has not been tested by Nigella.com so we are not able to answer questions regarding this recipe.

  • Preheat the oven on 200*C.
  • Stir all the ingredients together (add nuts or dried fruit if you want) and pour the mix in a greased baking tin.
  • Bake in the oven for about 30 minutes.
  • If you have a bread maker: put everything in the machine and choose the cake program. That's it.

    • I usually stick to Nigella's fool-proof cakes, but this is one of very few exceptions :) Delicious cake, soft crumb, SO easy - and no eggs or dairy if that's important to you. You can leave it as a simply perfect chocolate cake or add some fruit to mix it up - never had a failure with this recipe :D

    • I could not get this to work in the slightest. It came out flat as a pancake. Maybe it was just me but I do a lot of cakes in my bread machine (combination of a lazy baker & a son who loves pressing buttons). There just doesn't seem to be enough raising agent and probably needs an addition of eggs.
