Our answer

Nigella's Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Pots (from SIMPLY NIGELLA are soft and gooey individual desserts. The main reason for using butter in this recipe, and for most baking, is that butter adds a lot of flavour. Plant-based margarines are made with vegetable oils and these are mostly flavourless. Although flavourings are added to margarines they don't usually fully replicate the flavour of butter.

The pots can be made with a plant-based margarine, but the pots will not taste quite the same. You could add a few extra drops of vanilla extract to partially offset the lack of flavour in the margarine, but our preference would be to use butter if at all possible.
