Can I Make A Half-Sized Anglo-Italian Trifle?

Asked by Lucyjohn1923. Answered on 25th March 2024

Full question

I really want to make the Anglo-Italian trifle but as the amounts are for 12-14 people and there are only 4 who eat trifle would it work to make half the amount? If so what size trifle bowl would be best to use?

Our answer

Nigella's Anglo-Italian Trifle (from NIGELLA SUMMER) is a trifle that has a fruit layer made from blackcurrants and blackberries and is topped with a tiramisu-like mascarpone cream.

It is possible to make a smaller version of the trifle and easy to halve the quantities of all of the ingredients. The bowl in the photograph has a capacity of approximately 2 litres (8 cups), so if you wanted to make a smaller version then you could use a bowl with a capacity of at least 1 litre (4 cups). You could also make the trifle in 6 individual glasses or glass ramekins, each with a capacity of roughly 200ml/7 ounces (scant 1 cup).
