Full question
I'm not a fan of handling or eating fresh chillies. Very hard to get the balance right. Can I sub fresh chillies for dried chilli flakes in the Chicken With Spring Onions, Chilli And Greek Yogurt?
Our answer
Nigella's Chicken With Spring Onions, Chilli And Greek Yogurt (from HOW TO EAT) has pan-fried chicken breasts that are served with an tsatsiki-inspired salad of cucumbers and spring onions (scallions) that have been mixed with a garlicky, herby yogurt.
The recipe specifies a fresh green chilli and we would suggest a jalapeño chilli as these are usually quite mild and you would not need to add all of the chilli if you feel it would be too strong. You can also, if you like, don a pair of CSI-style gloves when handling the chillies and remove the seeds and any white membrane before dicing the flesh. However, if you are not keen on chillies then it is probably easiest just to omit them altogether from the yogurt. Dried chillies can vary in strength and some are very spicy, so they may not be the best alternative.
