Asked by aewat. Answered on 8th April 2025

Full question

Would it be possible to use minced venison instead of minced beef in Nigella's Meatballs with Orzo? Would I need to make any adjustments to the other ingredients?

Our answer

Nigella's Meatballs With Orzo (from AT MY TABLE) has meatballs that are poached in a tomato sauce. Orzo is added towards the end of the cooking time, to give a one-pot meal.

There is no particular reason why you could not use venison, particularly if you like venison. Venison tends to be leaner than beef, but as the meatballs are poached, it should not make much difference to the overall dish. The flavours in the meatballs and sauce all go well with venison, so you should not need to make any other adjustments.
