Can I Use Sriacha For The Tortilla Pie?

Asked by debbie72. Answered on 10th March 2026

Full question

Would sriacha be a good substitute for hot sauce (not a fan) in the Tortilla Pie? Also, should the eggs for the filling be whisked before adding them to the other ingredients?

Our answer

Nigella's Tortilla Pie (from AT MY TABLE) is a perfect brunch, lunch or supper dish, with the tortillas forming the base and top crust of the "pie". The filling is a combination of cheese, eggs and some form of cooked meat (or you could use cooked peppers or some other filling for vegetarians). The eggs are not whisked before they are added as they act more like baked eggs or eggs en cocotte. You could whisk the eggs if you wanted to, to have more of a breakfast burrito effect, but we prefer the recipe to be easy and with minimal dishes to wash and we like to be able to see the baked whole eggs in the pie.

The pie filling is topped with a squeeze of hot sauce and you can use any spicy (or even less spicy) sauce that you like. Sriacha is a form of hot sauce as it is fermented, as is Tabasco and some other hot sauces, but you could use something hotter or milder and even ketchup, if that is what you prefer. It just needs to give a slight piquancy to the cheesy, eggy filling.
