Nigella's Old Fashioned Chocolate Cake recipe uses a food processor. Can I use the creaming method to make the cake instead? Please advise. Thanks, Amy
Most of Nigella's cakes that are made with a food processor can also be made with a hand or stand mixer, or even with a bowl, a wooden spoon and plenty of elbow grease. The Old Fashioned Chocolate (from Feast and on the Nigella website) can certainly be made by the creaming method.
Make sure that the ingredients are all at room temperature and sift or whisk together the flour, cocoa, baking powder and bicarbonate of soda (baking soda). Cream the butter and sugar together and then beat in the eggs one by one, adding a little of the flour mixture between each egg to prevent the mixture from curdling. Turn the speed to low and mix in half of the flour mixture then add the sour cream. When these are combined add the remaining flour mixture and mix again. You may prefer to fold in the flour mixture at ths stage and do give the cake batter a quick turn with a wooden spoon or rubber spatula just to make sure that everything is thorougly combined at the bottom of the bowl.
