What Is Worthy Of Simply Sides

Asked by BiddyBakesCake. Answered on 31st January 2017

Full question

I love Simply Nigella and want to make everything, but I'm often unsure of what it's best to serve things with. For example, the Slaw with Miso Ginger Dressing or the Cucumber, Chilli and Avocado Salad or the Braised Peas with Mustard and Vermouth. They all look delicious, but as if they might be a bit choosy about their plate partners. Any help and advice very gratefully received. Thanks, Rachael.

Our answer

If certain dishes are a particularly good combination then Nigella will always try to mention them in her recipe introductions. However if you are not sure then you can always serve many of the side dishes with one of Nigella's kitchen staples of roast chicken, or try My Mother's Praised Chicken. You can also take inspiration from the ingredients themselves to find main courses that will fit well.

The Slaw With Miso Ginger Dressing is influcenced by Japanese flavours so would go well with Mirin Glazed Salmon or Slow Roast Pork Belly. The Braised Peas With Mustard and Vermouth has some French-inspired ingredients and would go well with Nigella's Chicken Traybake with Bitter Orange And Fennel or the Tarragon Salmon. The Cucumber, Chilli and Avocado Salad is punchy and fresh, with a slight Mexican angle and so would be a good partner to Mexican Lasagne or Cornbread Topped Chilli Con Carne. The crunchy, fresh cucumbers also help to complement slow roasted dishes such as Nigella's Slow Roasted Garlic and Lemon Chicken.
